Domini Addresses the Congressional Human Rights Caucus on the
Genocide in Darfur
Domini
was pleased to have the opportunity to brief the Congressional Human Rights
Caucus on what investors can do to implement policies addressing genocide and
other crimes against humanity. We were the only financial services
representative present at the briefing.
The
briefing, held on September 10, 2008, was chaired by Representative Jim
McGovern (D-MA) and also included an opening statement from Representative
Michael Capuano (D-MA).
In
his statement, Managing Director and General Counsel Adam Kanzer said, “Our shareholders are not unique in wishing to use their
investments to build a world of environmental sustainability and human dignity.
They are certainly not unique in refusing to profit from genocide.… We must
tell corporate managers that they are not acting in our name when they actively
support genocidal regimes.”
The
panelists urged Congress to hold formal hearings on this topic during the next
session.
