Read the Action Alert Update
July 16, 2002
Dear Friend of Domini:
I am writing to you today to
urge you to contact Governor Gray Davis to express your strong support for AB
1493, an important bill designed to address global warming. AB 1493, recently
passed by the legislature, would make California the first state in the nation
to curb automotive emissions of greenhouse gases that cause global
warming. Global warming is the most
pressing, and potentially the most catastrophic environmental challenge we face
today.
Governor Davis has already
indicated that he is “strongly inclined” to sign the bill but your show of
support is still critical. Addressing
global warming is not only good for the environment but good for investors, as
we know that climate change poses tremendous financial risks, and that
corporate performance on environmental issues affects competitiveness,
profitability and shareholder value.
If signed into law, the
California legislation would be the nation’s first such effort to target carbon
dioxide emissions and would pressure the auto industry to design and produce
cleaner vehicles. Implementing this legislation will go a long way toward
convincing other states -- as well as federal lawmakers and the auto industry
itself -- to adopt more sensible priorities when it comes to climate change.
Time is of the essence as
the Governor has only 12 days to either sign or veto the bill which he received
on July 11th. Below is a
letter that you can personalize and send to Governor Davis to express your
support. If you prefer, you can call
his office and register your support that way.
In either event, we encourage you to take action.
Thank you,

Amy Domini

SAMPLE LETTER
Dear Governor Davis:
As a
California resident committed to protecting the environment and concerned about
the dangers of global warming, I urge you to sign AB 1493 into law. The potential benefits of enacting this
legislation are enormous. This law will
not only curb automotive emissions of greenhouse gases, which we know cause
global warming, it will also send a loud, strong message to federal lawmakers,
other states and the auto industry itself that we must adopt more sensible
priorities when it comes to climate change.
Addressing global warming is
not only good for the environment, it is also good for investors and the
economy. As a socially responsible
investor, I know that climate change poses tremendous financial risks for
investors, and that corporate performance on environmental issues affects
competitiveness, profitability and shareholder value. There is an inherent link between environmental performance and
financial performance. This legislation
will also serve to stimulate the development of new technologies that will
benefit businesses, the environment and the U.S. economy.
By signing AB 1493, and
becoming the first state in the nation to target carbon dioxide emissions and
pressure the auto industry to design and produce cleaner vehicles, California
will further its position as a leader in fighting pollution and protecting the
environment. Please sign this
legislation and send a message to the nation that it is time for all of us to
take action against global warming.
Thank you,
